About Unclaimed Assets

Common forms of unclaimed assets include; savings and checking accounts, stocks, uncashed dividend or payroll checks, litigation funds, escrow accounts, estate and trust distributions, insurance proceeds, life insurance policies, annuities, certificates of deposits, mineral rights, royalty payments, and many other different property types. Most of these accounts are associated with entities such as estates including intestate and testate succession, trusts, corporations, limited partnerships, bankruptcies, individual accounts/investments or their heirs and beneficiaries.

Unclaimed assets, also known as abandoned property, unclaimed property, lost assets etc. among missing and unknown estates cases are compiled into long lists by various courthouses and other financial institutions. Many of these accounts have been unclaimed or suspended for many years and sometimes even decades totaling billions of dollars in the United States.

Any intangible property that has been dormant and deemed unclaimed is considered to have left possession of its rightful owner, without having directly entered the possession of any other person or entity. The dormancy period is usually three years for most properties, but this can vary depending on the type of property before the property becomes classified as unclaimed.

Research and Claims Services

No Up-Front Costs

We never ask for any up-front money and you will never have to advance, invest or loan any money to us for our efforts. We will advance or pay any up-front expenses needed to get our client’s claim approved.

Tracing the Rightful Claimant

Through our location services we locate rightful claimants using proprietary databases, probate, and genealogy research among other resources.

After a potential claimant has been located, we cross reference the information on the account to corroborate whether the rightful claimant(s) have been identified.

Legal Representation

When there is a claim for an estate and the value exceeds the small estate threshold, it is necessary to start a probate proceeding, this usually requires legal representation.

We work with probate attorneys on a contingency basis since it is quite common that a claim for an estate asset will need legal representation. We always advance the costs so there are never any up-front fees for our clients.

Identifying The Asset

UCP Tracers review thousands of unclaimed accounts to identify why an account has had no activity. There are many reasons why an account is dormant or classified as unclaimed, the account owner is usually deceased or has moved and not updated their address.

There are many instances where the account owner was never in direct contact with the holder such as certain investment and pension accounts etc. The fist step is for us to figure out why an account has had no activity.

Investigation and Records Search

After all the research has been completed and all the documents have been obtained, we gather all detailed information about the account to verify the claimant’s entitlement.

The claimant’s entitlement is usually verified through intestate or testate succession, entitlement through adoption, listed as a beneficiary in a trust, or on an insurance policy etc.

Distribution of Funds

After a claim has been submitted and approved, a check will be mailed out directly to you. There will be no other fees charged to you except for our agreed upon commission.
